ASHE COUNTY — Heavy rains from Hurricane Florence caused a mudslide in Ashe County last week, which led to a fire at Lifestore Bank. The bank ignited minutes after the mud hit the back of the building. Blue Ridge Energy reported that the mud tipped a power pole, breaking wires, possibly causing the blaze. All employees were able to evacuate, and first responders put out the fire.
